‘Keys To The city’ off the ‘Taxi’ ep
Keys to the city
INSPIRATION/INFORMATION:
“Keys To The City’ is about coming face to face with a person whose authority dwarfs yours. They can help or hinder your cause, but either way, you’re very invested and they can retreat behind their iron gate at a moment's notice. In my instance, I was supporting someone who needed disability access. But it might be a judge in court, a government bureaucrat, a real estate agent or a politician. This song seeks to examine how underwhelming a person can be when they’re authority is so overwhelming.”

LYRICS
There’s she sits
With the keys to the city hung round her neck
Ah, oh,
So simmer down the people of the town
I don’t have a dog in the fight
Each day arrives then fades
Now you’re face to face with the future
You can be sure and still be wrong
But this time your heart is on the line
When it all comes at once
And too much just ain’t enough
The flame is lit
But the light it gives don’t hold much heat
And so, my mind ain’t made up baby
Don’t come drawing down on me
I, I, I don’t have a dog in the fight
Oh my god I can’t believe it
Now the fires started burning
Are you gunna do something about it?
Yes, are you gunna do something about it?
Each day arrives then fades
Now we’re face to face with the future
You can be sure and still be wrong
But this time your heart is on the line
Yes this time your heart is on the line
Time is moving on, time is moving on
And too much just ain’t enough
