‘CITY LIMITS’ FROM THE ‘SWEET SIDE OF LOVE’ EP
CITY LIMITS
INSPIRATION/INFORMATION:
City Limits was written about two characters; one experiencing the limits of what their city can provide, and the other feeling as if there are no limits. Ultimately, they’re both driven by hope, but you realise that one thrives at the other’s expense.
“ City Limits was a hard song to nail down. There were three full iterations of this song before this one arrived and there are remnants of each version that came along for the ride. The organ and some guitars from the draft, a full rerecord that was scrapped but lessons learned, parts and arrangements from the third and a complete makeover to land it on the green. In this song I’m really skirting the line of how to make happy / sad songs. I think this was the first time I gave myself the permission to lean into the happy, almost like a puppy discovering its bark. “

CITY LIMITS
Same old same
For you and your silver tongue
I guess fortune and fame favour some
There’s never been a city limit
Not as far as you can tell
So sleep free, no ones waking you in the night
We like the way this city’s, heart beats it keeps us moving
Fairytales, luck and fantasy, let it fool you
Living up the City Limits
It’s on her you know you can rely
To be breathing in every minute
With your head spinning up in the sky
You’re dancing in her sunlight
Thinking she’s only gunna do right by you
Living up the City Limits
We’ll she can be dangerous, dangerous, ohh
Ooh
Same old same
Waking rough on the street again
Blue and grey
Looking down on us from the sky
There’s always been a city limit
As far as you can see
There’s no safety, no shelter, no hand
We like the way this city’s, heart beats it keeps us moving
We’re gunna keep on moving its way
Living out the City Limits
It’s on her you know you can rely
To be breathing in every minute
With your head spinning up in the sky
You’re dancing in her sunlight
Thinking she’s only gunna do right by you
Living out the City Limits
Well she can be dangerous, dangerous, dangerous, dangerous, ohh
Ooh
Ooh, Ooh
