‘Dreaming In English’ is the third offering of Michael McCartney's 4 part EP series, spanning 12 months. Considered the 'Pop' release of the series, it's his most ambitious musically and thematically.

‘Dreaming In English’ is McCartney's commentary on the western world's declining clarity, and the forged progress toward social equity.

‘You Can Be Sad And Be Angry’, the lead single, was written by McCartney during the BLM protests. It’s about acknowledging the experience of hopelessness and checking your privilege, and your position in the world. Sitting in the overwhelm without reducing it, and optimistically seeking a gentle path forward. 
 

Recorded during the lockdown with collaborator Mitch Finglas, as QLD was opening back up ahead of most of Australia and the world. McCartney adds on the recording process, “The core of the song always felt strong, however, until the string synths that Ian Peres (Ruel, Amy Shark) played were in place, it was a tough song to finish. I knew I wanted the Roland RS505 to be on the track, and its funny that it was the first synth I had ever used when collaborating with Ian other than organs in rock music. Ian bought it on a whim almost 10 years ago and we used it on some tracks back then, but now it’s become sought after and rare. It was fitting to re-explore that synth together, and the track finally made sense once that ingredient was added.”
 

‘You Can Be Sad And Be Angry’ is out November 27th, with the EP 'Dreaming In English' out late January, 2021.
